Walthamstow Fire Station - Installation quarter 4, 2010
Project description: The world's biggest integrated PVT solution using Volther PowerTherm PVT, interseasonal storage of heat using borehole matrix and ground source heat pump.
The UK's first commercial project to use integrated Hybrid PVT and geothermal heat store. Excess summer thermal energy is pumped into the ground, raising ground the temperature to a nominal 20oc, this heat is then extracted using a heat pump for winter use. The benefit of this is that the efficiency (COP) of the heat pump is improved meaning less electrical energy is required to lift the temperature in order to heat the building during winter months.
Being a Fire Station, high volumes of hot water are used for showering and cleaning of equipment, the PowerTherm PVT panel is ideal for this application.
