Brambles - In Build
Project description: Integrated PVT solution using Volther PowerTherm PVT and Solar thermal panels, ground source heat pump, MVHR and buffer heat store and domestic voltage optimisation.
The first integrated Hybrid PVT installation in the UK to incorporate a geothermal heat store. Excess summer thermal energy is pumped into the ground, raising ground the temperature, this heat is then extracted using a heat pump for winter use. The benefit of this is that the efficiency (COP) of the heat pump is improved meaning less electrical energy is required to lift the temperature in order to heat the building during winter months.
The only time the heat pump will operate is when there is insufficient solar gain to heat the hot water to the desired temperature in the depths of winter.
The addition of voltage optimisation should further reduce the buildings electrical consumption by 10% by reducing and stabilising the incoming voltage from the grid.
This balanced system in a highly insulated building will require virtually no additional energy, we are hopeful with the inclusion of the voltage optimization to achieve zero-carbon or, very near to it, with this building.
